I am proud to announce that I have been elected President of the University System of Maryland - Student Council (USMSC) for the 2015-2016 Academic Year.
For the past six years, I have dedicated my efforts to the enhancement and advancement of both the academic and social opportunities and welfare for all students who chose the State of Maryland as the place to gain a higher education.
Over the years, in collaboration with many dedicated student leaders, I have advocated for a Universal Student Bereavement Policy, more efforts to strengthen Higher Educational Financial Literacy and Wellness, equitable funding for Maryland’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), the protection of interns from workplace discrimination and sexual harassment, increasing the educational and fiscal penalties for individuals who are caught hazing, and keeping tuition affordable so that all of Maryland’s public universities remain accessible, affordable, and of high quality.
I am honored and thankful to my friends and colleagues who elected me as the next USMSC President and I look forward to starting my term on July 1st, 2015. I want to congratulate both Gayon Sampson and Dan Miller for being elected as Vice Presidents for Undergraduate and Graduate Affairs, respectively. As I transition into this new position, I will be reaching out to newly elected student leaders on each of the campuses to gain a better understanding of their school’s initiatives and opportunities for progress.
Finally, I want to personally thank outgoing USMSC President Zac McGee. He has been a dear friend of mine and his dedication to the students of the State of Maryland was unwavering. I promise to build off of his administration’s successes and to fight every day on behalf of the more than 160,000 students who attend the twelve institutions and two regional centers throughout the Great State of Maryland.
Let’s get to work…Let’s fight for A Better Tomorrow, Today!
With Pride, Passion, and Purpose,
