Educating our students

I firmly believe that a quality education is the result of three things: dedicated educators, involved households, and holistic, qualitative supporting services. I also believe that educational investments should be, both, equitable and expansive.

As a member of the Board of Education for Prince George’s County, I authored and enacted policies that rewrote our school system’s outdated and insufficient Educational Equity policy, fostered the work being done to engage our alumni, locally and internationally, tackled food insecurity for our youngest students, and developed the Community Schools framework for.

While there is no shortage of success stories that derive from our public schools, I know that not every student – not every household – has experienced the greatness that can come from a quality education.

Commitment: I will support the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future plan to address educational equity, wraparound support services, universal early childhood education and educator compensation in our public schools. I will stand with  our educators and support staff to ensure their working conditions are safe and fight to make sure aspiring educators and support staff are supported in their credentialing journeys. I will sponsor legislation that ensures that every student has access to a healthy breakfast and lunch every day that they are in our public schools.
